Iceland Gull - missed again

Sunny, 14º, light NW.

2 visits to the hill today but still didn’t see the Iceland Gull, this morning it was seen by RW to fly over his car towards the downs and subsequently not seen again. I was on the hill later and probably just missed it. I was joined by TW later in the morning but still no luck, however spending a couple of hours watching a small piece of flood water turned up not only the usual Lesser Blackback Gulls, but also 20+ Black-headed Gulls, 3  Herring Gulls and 2 Common Gulls.

This particular Iceland Gull was found around 2 months ago near Didcot by RW and has been frequenting the flood area on the Downs at Churn recently and appears to be passing through Cholsey on its way there. It also appears to be the same bird that has been seen roosting at Farmoor reservoir.

A second visit this afternoon found 2 Corn Bunting in a singing contest a couple of Linnet, 2 Yellowhammer, 2 Buzzards and 3 Red Kites, also several small flocks of Fieldfare and Redwing around.

A Great-spotted Woodpecker and Treecreeper in the garden. A singing Chiffchaff in the garden of the Red Lion Pub and a singing Blackcap at the bottom of Cross Roads.

Several Small Tortoiseshell and Brimstone butterflies noted.
