Wheatear at last!

Cloudy, 10º (15º later), fresh westerly breeze.

After sorting out the Toad situation we went for a walk around the hill, still fairly quiet and again very little on the south side apart from 2 Red Kite, 2 Buzzard and a small (8) flock of Meadow Pipit flew through.

A good flock of c350 winter thrush in the fields to the North West comprised of 90% Fieldfare and the rest were Redwing + 1 Song Thrush, 2 Chiffchaff singing, a single Pied Wagtail, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and both Green and Great-spotted Woodpecker noted, also good numbers of Stock Dove in the area.

TW had a couple of Curlew calling from over the common earlier.

Late afternoon and a call from TW to say there was a Wheatear on the hill so off we went to the hill again and saw the Wheatear that was feeding along a track leading away from the hill....................................at last!

Also several Skylark in song, 3 singing Corn Bunting and a Yellowhammer in the late afternoon sun.

2 Grey Wagtails flew over the garden this morning and at least 2 Tawny Owl calling from the meadow before dawn.
