Sunny, few clouds, 20º, light to mod SW.
A warm, sunny but breezy day and a walk out west of the
village. Lollingdon hill was settled with no change from the previous 2 visits.
A pair of Lapwing
have successfully bred in the vicinity with at least 2 young seen, let’s hope
they survive. I did not stop to take photos as the adults were a little
agitated so I moved on. There have been 2 other pairs of Lapwing in the parish
but not sure of how they are doing yet and another pair present in nearby
Brightwell area.
The “long ditch” out by the Lees had 2 pairs of Reed Bunting present and some very
young Moorhens swimming around, also
2 singing Sedge Warbler and the “Reedy
ditch” had at least 7 singing Sedge
Warbler and 6 singing Reed Warbler
(3 up on last year).
7 Yellow Wagtail
present in the area with at least one in song.
20+ Swallow, 8 House Martin and 20+ Swift feeding over Cholsey hill.
A few butterflies around today with a Red Admiral (my first of the
year), several Brimstone, Small White, Small Tortoiseshell and Speckled
Wood and a single Peacock.
