Another Redstart

Cloudy, warm 24º, humid, light SW.

A warm muggy walk out to Lollingdon. Not much on the way out, Lapwing still present with at least 1 adult and 1 young bird seen.

A few Corn Bunting and Yellowhammer still in song and the odd snatch of song from Blackcap, Common Whitethroat and Chiffchaff heard.

The star of the show was another Redstart on the hill, first heard calling and tracked down eventually perched on a fence post for most of the time but also feeding and preening. A Willow Warbler feeding in the same hedge.

2 Kestrel, a Buzzard and 3 Red Kite present on the hill, several young Yellowhammer noted, 10+ Linnet, 2 Yellow Wagtail and a Mistle Thrush. Another Mistle Thrush feeding on the playing fields.

5 Lesser Blackback Gull flew SW and 8 Black-headed Gull flew NW.

A Grasshopper Warbler reported at Lollingdon today (per AK).

Not so many butterflies today with the cloudy conditions but still fair numbers present with 10 species noted.

 Initial view
Then came into view but still distant

  1. Great to see another redstart. Great to hear they are about and becoming more frequent nowadays...Lori
