A somewhat drab day……………………………and quiet birdwise.
Only a Corn Bunting found on the hill today although 7 Red Kite and a single Buzzard soaring overhead and a Sparrowhawk flew south..
Several “winter thrush” flocks today numbering around 500 birds in total and a few Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting present in the hedgerows.
A couple of Mistle Thrush in song and 3 or 4 Song Thrush and at least 3 Great-spotted Woodpecker drumming.
A belated report of a Curlew that flew over Church road at the weekend (per Richard Broughton).
And another belated report of a Raven over Tony Rayner’s garden on Wednesday.
Mammals: Roe Deer, Brown Hare.
Butterflies: a Small Tortoiseshell yesterday.
Quite a few Bumble Bees around today virtually all Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) and a lot of trees and bushes in bud. Just waiting now for our first summer migrants to arrive!
