A couple of Alien species

Mostly sunny, 14°, light SSE.

Lollingdon a.m. and Cholsey Marsh p.m.

The Common Redstart still present in hedgerows out by Amwell Spring this morning.

Several singing Chiffchaff and 2 Blackcap and a few Meadow Pipit flyovers out at Lollingdon but little else.

A Mistle Thrush collecting food in the meadow.

Cholsey Marsh had a single Sedge Warbler singing (2 this morning per TW) up to 10 Chiffchaff in song and at least 5 Blackcap, a Cetti’s Warbler also heard singing.

A Sparrowhawk hunting along the hedges, 2 pair of Bullfinch and several Reed Bunting.

The Harris Hawk seen flying over and also seen this morning by TW.

2 Great Crested Grebe on the river.

Mammals: Roe Deer.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Orange Tip, Green-veined White, Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock, Comma and Speckled Wood.

Oil Beetles still present on the hill and several Bee Flies seen.

A lot of Loddon Lily now in flower on the marsh.

The Red-eared Terrapin seen this morning by TW and again this afternoon by myself in the same spot.

A few alien species photographed today, a Red-eared Terrapin native to the southern US and Mexico, (an invasive species due to releases in to the wild).
The Harris Hawk, native to south western US, Argentina, Brazil, Chile has been around the area for at least 6 years and is presumably and escape from captivity.




The Loddon Lily is a British red book listed native species
